Welcome
Khayelihle Children's Village (KCV) is located about 12 miles outside
of Bulawayo's city center. Bulawayo is the second largest city in
Zimbabwe, a country in southern Africa.
The mission statement of Khayelihle Children's Village is to provide
each child with shelter, food, educational, medical and spiritual
guidance in a loving, stable, home environment.
Khayelihle, pronounced K-eye-uh-lee-shlay, comes from the IsiNdebele
language and is translated a "beautiful" or "good" home.
Khayelihle Children's Village has five houses and other farm
buildings situated on a 270-acre farm.
| The houses are home to more than 80 orphaned or abandoned children,
their caregivers and the farm workers. The children are orphaned
primarily because of the AIDS pandemic. |
 |
 |
The farm provides food for the children from the dairy herd, beef
cattle and chickens, a vegetable garden and field crops. |
 |
The three to five-year-old children attend a pre-school, the Southern Cross Learning Centre, located on
the farm and the older children are transported to area schools. |
In addition to the residential care, KCV assists children through the
community Orphan Care Programme (COCP) that cares for just over 100
children who reside in the city of Bulawayo.
Khayelihle Children's Village is directed by a local Board of
Directors.
